Thor was the god of thunder, law, and order. He was the son of Odin and his lover, Jorth. He was married to the goddess Sif. He was known as the Keeper of Oaths, and people swore on him when creating oaths. He protected Norsemen's farms and homes when he killed Giants to protect Asgard. He had a chariot pulled across the sky by two goats named Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. Their hooves caused the sound of thunder heard on the Earth below. Sailors would pray to him for fine weather before setting off.

Odin is the chief divinity of the Norse pantheon. Odin is a son of Bor and Bestla. He is called Alfadir, Allfather, for he is indeed father of the gods. is a god of war and death, but also the god of poetry and wisdom. He hung for nine days, pierced by his own spear, on the world tree. Here he learned nine powerful songs, and eighteen runes. Odin can make the dead speak to question the wisest amongst them. His hall in Asgard is Valaskjalf ("shelf of the slain") where his throne Hlidskjalf is located.

Sif was the goddess of the harvest, fruitfulness, and plenty. Her long golden hair was something she prided herself in, and it reminded people of the golden harvest. It was once all cut off by Loki as a cruel prank. She was miserable and crops would not grow until it was replaced. The dark months while her hair was gone became what was known as winter.

Frigg as the wife of Odin. She is the patron of marriage and motherhood, and the goddess of love and fertility. In that aspect she shows many similarities with Freya, of whom she possibly is a different form. She has a reputation of knowing every person's destiny, but never unveils it. As the mother of Balder, she tried to prevent his death by extracting oaths from every object in nature, but forgot the mistletoe. And by a fig made from mistletoe Balder died.

Turn off the snark-o-meter, and this is a return to form for Marvel, introducing a new hero we’ll be happy to see again in, oh, about a year or so.

No matter how the filmmakers move Heaven and Earth, this comic-book adaptation looks cool but contains very little thunder.

The epic adventure Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the mystical realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, Thor is banished to Earth where he is forced to live among humans. When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero.
